First this is NOT a “SAS” survival handbook but a book written by John “Lofty” Wiseman who got out of the SAS in 1985…. Yeap real up to date…. here it says he was in for 26 years and he is on youtube saying 27 years and he states he got out in 1985. The book uses the name SAS as if this is what the British military uses and it is NOT. I am sure the title helps sell this book, but the content is not up to date and is lacking in many areas. The book is some what helpful but if you think your getting a true military manual from the SAS your not. There are many good military survival manuals here on Amazon.

Not a terrible book by any means, but many better titles are available on the subject. Did not go into the bin, actually made it into the box in the closet.
This book attempts to deal with too much subject matter, covering none in enough detail to help in the field.

I haven’t had much of a need for this info in the past (I have camped a few times, though), but I have often wondered what I would do in an emergency away-from-society situation. By God’s grace I will never be in one, but I still find this a fascinating and enjoyable read. The information is clearly useful and practical. After watching a few episodes of Survivorman and Man vs. Wild on Netflix, though, the initial glory and excitement of being in a situation like this has diminished for me. I think now it also may be worthwhile to spend more time learning about more currently-useful part-of-society ‘survival’ topics that can certainly positively affect my life and others now like: how to build a good marriage, love my wife and kids, communicate better with others, improve my work-related skills, love God and pray better to God (that the emergency/survival situations in this book won’t happen, for example), etc. However, I admittedly feel better knowing this information. I actually now have an emergency/survival kit in my car (Bought one cheap online: ‘Essentials 2 Person Survival Kit’ by Guardian: contains some long-lasting food, emergency blankets, lights, other). Recommended.

this is the best book ever. I had the old colon’s gem pocket version but this one is better.
the pocket one has it’s place, But i highly recommend this book.
