I like the Bantam II, instead of the bottle opener it has the small blade.
@labrat7357: That is a SwissBianco SAK. He makes all types of limited edition SAK’s. He even has a newsletter you can subscribe to. The newsletter used to be the only way to buy his knives but then he started selling them on eBay last Winter, or I guess, Summer for you.
@labrat7357: You should be able to find a blue farmer pretty easy on eBay. Your red Soldier sounds really nice. Check out SAKWiki (dot) com, it’s a great site. Check and see if they have any further information on your model. That was a nice gift.
Check out ebay (US site) search for “VICTORINOX RARE ALOX SPLASH FARMER SWISS ARMY KNIFE” somthing different.
Hi, I will have to track down a blue farmer . I have a variation it’s a Vic soldier model knife in silver alox it has a simple cross shield like the red first mate you showed and on the same side at the other end it has an inscription plate 24 x 9 mm with the NSN number 7340-18-400-2426 stamped in there. The central liner has an extended end for a split ring. I was an observer on an army exercise and a South Affrican officer gave one to each observer as a gift..
I’m glad that I already subscribed to this guy
@LZSchneider: The Copper Cadet is the one that is really hard to find. It looks similar to the autumn orange Cadet but there is a distinct difference. Every once in a while I see one come up for sale on Ebay but the price is usually a lot more than I want to pay.
Man those look really cool, especially that autumn orange cadet. Too bad they’re so hard to find now. D:
@bluesy92: I like the Tinker models too. I have the Tinker, Super Tinker, Deluxe Tinker and the Eurosport, which is the Tinker with red nylon scales instead of the typical red cellidor. I agree, I like the phillips than the corkscrew. Since they are all still in production and not hard to find you should be able to get them all for around $125. Good luck.
My favorite knives are the Tinkers, becuase I prefer having a phillips driver. I have a Super Tinker for EDC, and want to get a collection of every Tinker model, including another Super Tinker that’s unused, since I EDC mine. AFAIK, the only tinker models are the Tinker, Sper TInker, Deluxe Tinker, Tinker Small, and the SoftGrip Tinker. I wonder how much that collection would run me….

I got it from my dad when I turned 10. he got it from his dad when he was like 10 so its pretty old i’m 17 and my dad 62 his dad is dead soo pretty damn of knife! and still sharp:)

I’ve had both of my First Mate SAK’s for a couple years now. The red one I got at FelineVet and the silver one I got from SwissBianco. At the time I paid around $50 a piece for them. I’ve added many more Alox SAK’s to my collection since I posted this video. One of these days I’ll have to do an update.

The Alox are my favorites. They don’t wear near as fast as the cellidor ones. Those things have scratches the first time you put them in your pocket. The cadet is my favorite. It is so compact and thin you can carry it no matter what you are wearing. I have been looking for a first mate forever, where did you find yours? I really don’t wanna pay the $200+ I see them going for online
But you have a nice collection there, I’m jealous.
the tool on the bantam is called a “combination tool” it is a can opener, bottle opener, screwdriver, wire stripper.
the tool on the pioneer is called a “reamer”, I don’t think they ever referred to any tool as an “awl” tho I’m not 100% on that. an “awl” is used to stab a hole , a reamer is designed to twist or spin to make a hole. very different thing
I think the blade is slightly larger and thicker on the Soldier. The other tools on it are also thicker than the ones on the Pioneer.
I love the single width pioneer series,I carry the apprentice at work(I’m an electrician)and the pruner on the weekends out in the garden.
btw the “gardener”(I also own) is a single long strait blade, mine is black with brass liners, also the “hook” blade you referred to is called a “pruning” blade.
nice collection !
It sounds like a nice SAK and definitely a collector. I’m not interested but you may want to try MultiTool (dot) org. There are a lot of SAK collectors there. Good Luck.
Hey I have a vintage tinker from the 70′s and it has no toothpick or tweezer slots the reamer doesn’t have a hole in it and the screwdriver has a file on it do u want it?
Alox does not scratch as easily as cellidor scales, but they will wear. It just all depends on how hard you are on the SAK. Some think a worn Alox scaled SAK is like SAK patina,
Do the Alox ones get scratched as easily as the red plastic ones? Also, are they spray painted(silver ones) and will the paint scratch off? The plastic ones seem to be scratched up even when they are new>
The difference is very minimal. Maybe, and this is just a guesstimate, 1mm at the most. Alox scaled SAK’s seem sturdier but I think it’s also more of an aesthetic appeal. The Blue Farmer is a really nice SAK. The Farmer is one of my all time SAK’s and not many of any type of blue Alox is available.
how much thinner is the alox classic sd than the regular classic sd with the plastc scales?
i really like the color of that blue farmer
